Eight to the bar

Orson Welles first came to pub­lic atten­tion in the radio dra­ma The Shad­ow, begin­ning when he was 22 years old. The sto­ry goes that Myr­na Loy vis­it­ed him on the set in the ear­ly 1930s, and after the episode went out live Welles found her in the stu­dio, chew­ing gum. He queried: Par­don me Loy, is that The Shad­ow’s nougat you chew?
